The U.S. Chamber joined a broad coalition in urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject the American Innovation and Choice Online Act, a bill that was reintroduced in the Senate this week after failing to garner support in previous Congresses. The coalition argues that the bill would impose sweeping, sector-specific restrictions on leading U.S. digital platforms without requiring a showing of market power or harm to competition.

The letter warns that AICOA would discourage pro-competitive product integration, create legal uncertainty, raise costs for startups and small developers, and slow innovation in critical technologies, including artificial intelligence. It also notes that the bill mirrors aspects of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which has created compliance burdens and delayed access to new tools for businesses and consumers.

The coalition urges Congress to rely on the existing antitrust framework, which already provides authority to address conduct that harms competition and consumers, rather than adopting a prescriptive regime that could weaken U.S. technological leadership and undermine American efforts to push back against discriminatory digital regulations abroad.
